How to Pick a Nursing School

Nurse Schools

Picking the right nursing school can be a challenge, and like any big decision in your life, can even be a bit overwhelming at first. Take a deep breath and consider the options available to you. One good way to start is by making a list of everything that's important to you in a nursing school. Make sure to include every detail, from tuition cost, location, program reputation, class size, and every other detail you can think of. Once you have that list, cut out each item, mix them up and rearrange it in order of priority. Then type up the items as a checklist for your favorite nursing programs. Compare each school side by side and determine which offers the most traits that you prefer. You can even go so far as to assign a point system to give each of your finalists a score.

Eliminating nursing schools from your list of potentials is the easy part, but once you have narrowed it down to a few, there is even more you can do to help distinguish them. Ask if you can sit in on a class at one of the programs. Talk to faculty, administrators, and alumni at each nursing school to get an even better sense of how you'll fit in. The choice is a big one, for certain, but after you do your research you will probably feel relieved and ready to make the plunge, knowing that you are going in fully aware of what to expect.
